There is an achievement that has confounded multiple IGN editors while playing Lost Planet. Since I earned it, I'll save you some headache and explain how you defeat (but cannot kill) the Giant Worm.

The Worm (and you will know him when you meet him) can never be killed (only temporarily defeated). Know that right off the bat. He has big green glowing weak spots that you must shoot. Keep in mind, the Worm has two ends and sometimes shows the head (he charges forward when the head is up) and his ass (when he fires missiles out his bum). You need to do damage on both ends.

The most important thing is to keep running across the snow plains until you are away from the small flying creatures. Once you are away from them, it is just you and the worm. Aside from doing damage and being annoying, the littly flying bastards often get in the way of rocket launcher attacks. So get clear from them and then fight the Worm.

There is no special animation when the worm is beaten. The only way you will know is that the music stops. You don't even have to have all his weak points destroyed to "defeat" him. However, in about two minutes, he returns completely healed. If the music has stopped, you have defeated the worm and you can stop fighting him.

When you defeat him you will not see an Achievement Unlock. Instead, you must complete the mission to get the achievement. This is why many at IGN spent significant time trying to defeat this beast again and again, not realizing the reward was already netted.

In the final boss fight, your actions are as follows:

YELLOW button moves your Vital Suit upwards

GREEN button moves your Vital Suit downwards

BLUE button fires pulse lasers

LEFT TRGR fires lasers or does a large sideways cut if you hold it

RIGHT TRGR does a saber stab or does a vertical cut if you hold it

The final bosses weaknesses are the large cutting attacks activated by your TRIGGERs. Just get in close to him and keep cutting him unitl he dies and be sure not to get caught in his purple laser attack. Don't bother using the pulse lasers since they don't do anything to the boss except to destroy the missiles fired at Wayne. Personally I think the best cutting attack to use is the sideways cut as you rarely miss him. The vertical cut can miss if the boss moves sideways.

So you wanna reach L50 on ranked matches and get that achievement out of the way? Set up a private invite with a friend and make a ranked team elimination or elimination match game.

Meet up in the specified session and start the match with two people. Now go around the level takeing over data pods without killing each other. Shuttling back and forth stealing data pods gives you points (since having them taken from you doesn't cost you anything, unlike dying).

If you do this at level 1, you're likely to gain around 15 levels in a game set for 10,000 points.

At the beggining of the level, you start with the machine gun.use that until you get to the boss. The first time you fight him, don't shoot. Save your ammo and go into the building. Now destroy the nests with the shotgun and if there is any ammo left, use it on the spider-like things. Take your weapons, and pick up ammo and grenades. Activate the object and continue. Dig up the rocket launcher but don't pick it up. Go to the entrence of the building but DO NOT go in. Blast away the enemies until you run out of shotgun ammo (Don't use the machine gun).

Go back and exchange the shotgun for the Rocket launcher. Now, go inside and jump into the robot. Destroy the boss but don't leave yet. Go to exit and turn towward your left. Inside is a chain gun and a rifle. exchange the machine gun for the chain gun and go to the robot. Put the chain gun on the robot (go towards it and pess B). Go back and pick up the rifle. Procceed towards the tunnel. Stop before you reach the tunnel and get out. Pick up the rocket launcher ammo and et back into the robot. go on until you get to the bridge of web. Get out of the robot and walk across the bridge to find a boss. Jump into the robot and destroy the boss.
