Gathering DNA to buy weapons and upgrades can be a bit boring (lets face it, we ALL want the bigger guns), so a quick easy solution is to revisit Turnipseed farm, go to the challenge called "Kill farmers". Each time you complete the challenge you get a healthy DNA reward (it increases each time as the quota increases). The first time you only need to destroy 6 farmers, but after you have done it a good few times it becomes 20 in 1 min 30 secs with a massive 300 DNA reward, so buying upgrades is very easy if you repeatedly complete this quick easy challenge.

The challenge is located near the famers field a short walk from the farmhouse you start the game near. If you where standing on the farmhouse porch looking at the field with cows in, head left past the trees (the lake will be on your right at this time) and just keep going forward (you should also see a beam of yellow light touching the sky, this is the challenge). The challenge is easy done with the disintegrator ray, mine was fully loaded with triple shot by this time so 1 shot per farmer did the trick.

Once you have completed the challenge and received your 300 DNA bonus, go to the yellow light and start the challenge again, keep doing this till your outta ammo, then re-visit the hangar, and go back to the Turnipseed Farm to get ammo (by re-visiting) and DNA from the challenge.
