For the past decade, games have become more violent, and far creepier. You only need to titles like Resident Evil and Silent Hill to know how sheer terror can be created from a jumble of polygons. Midway's The Suffering is the newest and arguably the most terrifying game to have ever been released. If you thought that the creatures of Capcom and Konami's horrorfests were hard to stomach, you haven't seen anything yet. Isolated on the mysterious Carnate Island, inmate 16229A - better known as Torque - will have to fight his way through hordes of abominations that live only to skewer and torture the inhabitants of Abbott State Penitentiary.

Luckily, this is where IGN's guide to The Suffering comes into play. We'll not only help you along with a detailed walkthrough, but we'll also help you discover various secrets and all three hidden endings in the game. In short, we'll show you how to survive long enough to finish the game. Unfortunately, we can't hold your hand when you play this game late at night. You might have to ask your big sister to do that.

Beat the game once to unlock a new opening sequence for the next game you begin.

Make "Good" decisions (i.e. saving characters from death, helping characters, etc.) and beat the game.

Complete the game using the monster transformation throughout the majority of the game.

Make "Bad" decisions (i.e. killing characters, leaving characters to die, etc.) and beat the game.

At the part of the game inside a prison, where you are supposed to help the guard get accros the wall, slayers will keep spawning until you shine the light on them. If you don't use the light and let them keep coming, keep killing the slayers as they come. When your insanity hits full, keep using the main attack until you run out, and repeat this as many times as you like until your little blue bar disappears in the lower right. When done, just shine the spot to stop the slayers, and continue on your merry little way.

Press X, X quickly to drop down a ladder much more quickly.

Start a new game after already completing the game at least once. During the prelude level, a crow will fly to a corner and land. Jump on top of the crow for the commentary!

Once your flashlight is almost used up, save the game and reload from the save. Your light will then stay light until you find new batteries.

In Chapter 12: A Lonely Place To Die, after you pick up the urgent note from Dr. Killjoy telling Torque to return to the prison for his findings. Look for the second campfire on the left. Slash through the boards, and you have found "Sergei's Stash" (the CO from the Asylumn library)

Reach level fifteen, "An eye for an eye..." After you talk to your children and wife (whom are within the prision cells), some baddies appear and blow a hole through the wall. Going through this hole leads you into the COs breakroom. Before leaving this room, make sure you pick up the phone next to the door. A voice on the other end tells you "You will die in seven days!" in an obvious reference to the movie The Ring.
