Highlight either the "R-Type" or "R-Type II" options at the title screen. Quickly press L2(10), R2(10). Begin game play and press Start to access any level or view the FMV sequences.

To slow your ship movement, pause the game then hold L2 and press Right, Up, Right, Up, Down, Left, Down, Left, X.

To speed-up your ship, pause the game then hold L2 and press Right, Up, Right, Up, Down, Left, Down, Left, Circle.

While playing, pause, hold L2 and hit Right, Up, Left, Right, Down, Left, Up, Right and hit either Triangle, Square, Circle, X or R1 for a laser bomb. You should be able to hear a sound to confirm if you did it correct.
